*** The equipment *** |
CAMERA: See my ghost photography section. COMPASS: It is believed that carrying one of these devices into a haunted location will direct you to the ghost or energy field and then spin while the field is present. This is base upon the same principle of the EMF reader. DIGITAL THERMAL SCANNER: Another kind of electronic device, that is also referred to as an Infrared Non-Contact Thermometer. This device can track down a ghostly, or paranormal, presence by taking instant readings from the air and detecting any changes in temperature that might be sudden or extreme. The device detects "cold spots" (unexplained temperature variances) that often signal that a ghost is present. The ghost uses the energy in that spot to manifest itself and in return, produces a cold mass. The ghost may be invisible to the naked eye but still detectable by these devices. |

These cold spots, which are often extreme and unexplainable, occurs in many indoor and outdoor locations from haunted houses to cemeteries. The devices are, of course, not fool-proof. It should be noted that the scanners, when pointed and activated, take instant reading from small areas. The infrared beam must come into contact with something, which provides the temperature reading. If the scanner is simply pointed into the sky and activated, you will, of course, come up with extremely cold temperatures. ELECTRO-MAGNETIC FIELD METERS (EMF): This is the most common device used by ghost hunters today and is considered to be the most reliable. Electronic devices have been adapted to ghost hunting as a way to give confirmation of our instincts in the field. Researchers believe that ghosts, and paranormal energy, are electro-magnetic in origin. The energy that a ghost emits, whether it be a conscious spirit or a residual image, causes fluctuations in a location's magnetic field and thus, becomes detectable using measuring devices. It's obvious that the equipment can also be influenced by things that aren't supernatural of nature. Therefore it's necessary to learn how to use your detector. FLASHLIGHT AND SOME TOOLS: Better be prepared when it all starts. GEIGER COUNTER: This tool measures radiactive radiation in the air. Be warned, some construction materials, like plaster, emits natural radiation. ION DETECTOR: This kind of detector measures free particles (ions) in the air. Mostly gasmixes. Be warned, some construction materials, like polystyrene foam, emits gases when they break. IRON FILINGS, FLOUR: Due to the fact that a paranormal phenomenon is accompanied in a change of EMF, very fine iron filings can form a visual field due to the re-organisation of the particles. Flour can visualize shapes, footprints and false airflows.. LAPTOP COMPUTER: Makes it easier to record more measurements at a time and to compare or enhace measurements. MEASURING TAPE: Checking distances. MOTION SENSOR DEVICES: Explains itself, but mostly used to exclude non-paranormal energy. NIGHT VISION EQUIPMENT: The only scope that would be worth purchasing would be a Gen III scope, which allows you to see into the 980 nm range. The human eye can see up to 720 nm and so this scope will provide you with over 250 nm beyond the level of human sight.... if anything can "see" ghosts, it would be this type of scope. The same will happen with infrared film. See ghost photography section. NOTEBOOK AND PEN: Never leave without it! TAPE-RECORDER: Sometimes there is an abnormal sounding which can be recorded. Most of the time you need to filter the noise to get a clear sound. VIDEO-RECORDER: A videotape can record things which are missed by the eye, and are used to provide evidence in case of paranormal activity. |
